What is Sleep Apnoea? Does it have a Cure?
Doctor: Mr. Naresh, When did you get Bariatric surgery (Mini Gastric Bypass) done?Patient: I underwent Bariatric Surgery 2 years ago. Doctor: How much weight have you lost? Patient: I lost approximately 70 Kg. Doctor: What problems did you have before surgery? Patient: Firstly, your body size was increasing because of obesity, and along with that what other issues you had? Doctor: Did you snore before surgery? Patient: My weight was more than 150 Kg before surgery. Doctor: Ok. Patient: And I used to snore loudly. Doctor: Ok and now? Patient: I was not able to sleep comfortably before surgery. Patient: I used to sit while sleeping. Doctor: Ok. Doctor: This is sleep apnea, try to make people aware of it as much as you can. I would say making someone aware of this problem is more important than chanting prayers. Doctor: Giving a piece of good advice can be beneficial for someone. Doctor: A person who is having heavy neck is at the risk of death while sleeping and also he is not aware of it. This is our responsibility to make people aware of heavy necks and snoring. Doctor: Have a look at your before surgery picture, you were having a heavy neck. Doctor: Why did you use to sit while sleeping? Doctor: Because tongue fall was causing airway obstruction leading to shortness of breath. Patient: Yes! Doctor: If a person like you sleeps after drinking alcohol, means near-death experience Patient: Ok. Doctor: We do fear Bariatric Surgery but the main problem is that patients are complicated as they have multiple problems like breathlessness because of heavy necks. Doctor: If surgery is done in a short duration like we do MGB-OAGB Surgery in just 20-25 minutes, then it is safe for the patient. Patient: Ok. Doctor: We give TIVA anesthesia and because of this, the patient comes out of the bed immediately after surgery. Doctor: Had you started walking on the day of surgery? Patient: Yes! after surgery I woke up and went to my room from the recovery room by walking. Doctor: You went to your room without any assistance. Patient: Yes! Doctor: Surgery Quality and good anesthesia decrease the risk in obese patients. Patient: Ok. Doctor: We had given you a CPAP machine to use while sleeping, how long have you used it? Patient: I used that for 2 months. Doctor: Ok. Doctor: After 2 months you must have lost a good amount of weight and you didn't need that machine anymore. Patient: Yes! I have lost almost 70 Kg till now. Doctor: You must have lost 10-12 kg in the first 2 months after surgery? Patient: Yes! Doctor: With weight loss, your breathing must have become normal, and didn't need that machine. Patient: Yes! Doctor: We need to make people aware of these things. Patient: Yes! Doctor: Many people think that weight loss is easy, anyone can lose weight with exercise and diet. But for those people who become obese, dieting and exercise are not easy for them. Doctor: No one can do exercise with an extra weight of 60-70 kg. Doctor: If I ask an obese person to run for 10 kilometers, it is difficult for him. Patient: I tried a lot like walking for miles but it has no effect on me. Patient: I got results after Bariatric Surgery. Doctor: Can you eat like a normal person? Patient: Yes! Doctor: Can you eat 2 chapatis with vegetables or lentils in one go? Patient: Yes! comfortably. Doctor: Are you taking multivitamins regularly? Patient: Yes! Doctor: Get your routine blood tests done once every six months. Patient: Ok. Kular Bariatrics is considered the best bariatric center of India, Punjab for Mini gastric bypass.
